New Zealand's first range of native flower essences
Since time immemorial, healers and ancient wisdom keepers have been aware of the powerful intelligence that is embedded in nature.
The Australian Aboriginals have always used flowers, water and sunlight for healing purposes, as did the ancient Egyptians. Native Americans collected dew from flowers, and there has been a tradition of using the energies of plants in the form of vibrational medicine in India, Asia, Europe and South America. The Maori of New Zealand have also used the energy of native flowers and plants in this way to bring healing.
Hildegard Von Bingen in the 12th century and Paracelsus in the 15th century wrote about how they collected dew from flowering plants to treat health imbalances and Dr Edward Bach, the pioneer of modern day flower essences, developed the range of 38 Bach remedies in the 1930’s. Today, you can find flower essence ranges available from an array of countries.
The First Light Flower Essences of New Zealand are unique not only because of its founders, but because of New Zealand itself. New Zealand is home to some of the most ancient and unique flora on earth, and is recognised as a biodiversity ‘hotspot’. New Zealand or Aotearoa, split away from the southern continent of Gondwanaland about 120 million years ago, creating the opportunity for unique plants to develop in a land that enjoyed protracted isolation and the absence of human habitation for millennia.
Some species of trees growing in New Zealand have an unbroken ancestry stretching back into prehistory for over 190 million years and a remarkable array of ferns from the mountain heights down to the seashores. With up to 500 million years of evolution behind them, these ancient plants, trees and ferns are uniquely placed to offer remarkable healing properties when made into flower essences. The pristine light of each new dawn falls first on this sacred land of Aotearoa, the land of the ever shining light.
1975 saw Franchelle Ofsoské-Wyber, co-founder of First Light Flower Essences of New Zealand begin her work with native plant essences. By 1985 she was pioneering the development of the world’s first integrated range of flower essences that include flower, fern, tree, seed and plant essences as well as specialist essences for healers and lightworkers around the globe.
Since 1995, Franchelle has worked with Dr Rangimarie Turuki Arikirangi Rose Pere. C.B.E C.M. highly esteemed Maori tohuna and ancient wisdom keeper.
In 1999 at a televised new millennium dawn ceremony, an 'official' call was sent out asking the native plants and nature power of New Zealand to provide the people of the world with the healing necessary for the unprecedented challenges facing humanity in the 21st century. This call was answered and the work was blessed by Dr. Pere in her role as official spiritual guardian and patron in perpetuity.
In 2002 co-creators Franchelle and Anthony, along with Dr Pere officially launched the First Light Flower Essences of New Zealand, the first range of flower essences made from the native flora of New Zealand.
In 2008 Franchelle was awarded the New Zealand Health Industry Distinguished Services Award for Research and Development.
This award was in recognition for over 30 years of research into the nature power of New Zealand and for ‘pioneering, developing and establishing New Zealand native flower and plant essences to facilitate holistic healing’.
